New Orleans Brass Band, The Mississippi Swamp Dogs, is the perfect band to liven up your event! Playing a fabulous mixture of New Orleans Jazz, Funky Street tunes & Classic Pop tunes, the band can be booked as four players up to nine pieces. After Emancipation which happened in 1865, the first black New Orleans brass bands began performing in public events. These included baseball games, funerals and business openings. So, the band is perfect for an indoors or outdoors wedding party. It is fabulous for a corporate event. Why? Because if reflects energy, creativity and fun. New Orleans Brass Band for a Funeral. The Mississippi Swamp Dogs have an enviable reputation, countrywide, for their performances at funerals specialising in both African and West Indian Funerals. As well as this specialisation we have also played, hundreds of times, for Catholic, Protestant Funerals and humanist funerals. The band have a large and authentic repertoire of hymns and traditional tunes that reflect the New Orleans tradition. We even play the two tunes associated with the film Live and Let Die, where the opening scene is a New Orleans Funeral.

However, from the beginning of the twentieth century the black bands were making the genre their own and had a noticeable influence in the development of jazz.
